RESOLUTION:
Resolved that the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners accepts the grant award of $6,500 from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) and authorizes the County/Administrator to sign the Grant Agreement for Arts Services.
RECOMMENDATION:
Community Development requests the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners accept the award of grant funds from MCACA to assist in establishing public art as a final element in the renovations of the south courtyard of the County Building in Marshall.
BACKGROUND:
In May of 2019, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approved the submission of a grant application to MCACA requesting funds to establish an item of public art to be located in the newly renovated south courtyard of the County Building in Marshall.  In late October Community Development received notification that the county's proposal was selected for funding.  MCACA received thirteen requests from eligible applicants in Calhoun County, the Calhoun County application was the fourth highest scoring application and funded at $6,500.  These grant funds will be used to commission a regional artist, through a competitive process, to create a sculpture that depicts a positive experience in public service.
