Letter in Support of 29 1/2 Mile Rd culvert replacement grant application
Kristine Parsons, Engineering Director, Road Department
Resolved that the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners does hereby support the proposed replacement of the existing culverts on 29 1/2 Mile Rd. over the South Branch of the Kalamazoo River in Albion Township between Division Drive and B Drive S and authorizes the Road Department to seek funding assistance for the replacement of said structures through the State of Michigan Fisheries Habitat Grant Program.
It is the recommendation of the Road Department that the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approve the resolution supporting the replacement of these structures if the grant funding is awarded.
The Calhoun County Road Department was approached by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources about applying for a grant under the Fisheries Habitat Grant Program since this site was listed on their priority projects list. A pre-proposal was submitted in August 2019 and the 29 1/2 Mile Rd. culvert replacement project was subsequently identified as a strong candidate for funding and selected as one of the projects to be moved forward in the application process.
The Board of Commissioners could choose not to support this resolution. This would result in the Road Department's inability to submit the application as the resolution is a required part of the grant application.
Under this application, we are requesting $600,000 in grant funding and intend to utilize $375,000 in Small Urban Funds, as well as providing $225,000 in local match, for a total of $1,200,000 and will be included in the 2021 budget.
