Public Defender Office Lease Amendment
Brad Wilcox, Assistant County Administrator , Administration
Resolved the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners does hereby approve the Amendment to the Public Defender’s Office lease as presented and authorizes the County Administrator/Controller to sign the agreement on behalf of Calhoun County.
The Administrative Services Department requests the approval of the Board of Commissioners for the amendment of the lease agreement with the Public Defender’s Office for the addition of 935 square feet of office space for a total of 4,955 usable square feet, and revise the lease amounts accordingly in the Toeller Building in Battle Creek in the amount of $4,629 per month. The term of the agreement is January 1, 2021 to July 31, 2024.
On September 1, 2019, the Board of Commissioners approved a five-year lease agreement with the County to occupy 4020 square feet of office space on the third floor of the Toeller Building at the rate of $11.21 per square foot. Under the terms of the proposed amendment, the Public Defender will pay $4629 per month for the use of the 4,955 square feet of space. The amended lease agreement would continue through July 31, 2024. All other legal terms and conditions of the original lease remain in effect.
The Administrative Services Department requests approval for the renewal of a lease amendment with the Public Defender’s Office increasing the office square footage by 935. The annual amount of lease increases to $55,546.
The amount of the rental agreement ($55,5460) will be receipted to the B&G Fund #631 Toeller Building and is included in the approved 2021 County budget. The SOM Public Defender grant will pay the new lease amount so there will no negative impact on the County budget.
