Calhoun County Public Health Department School Nursing Position Request
Brigette Reichenbaugh, Health Department
Resolved, the Board of Commissioners approves the addition of a .40 FTE Public Health Nurse to the Authorized Staffing Allocation Report, along with the associated budget adjustment.
The Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD) respectfully requests that the Board of Commissioners (BOC) approve a .40 FTE Public Health Nurse I/School Nurse increase in the School Wellness Program (SWP).
Lakeview School District (LSD) recently identified a need for an additional part-time (20-hours per week) school nurse at the Lakeview Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year. In order to fulfill this need, a current part-time (.41 FTE) school nurse will be increased to full-time (.81 FTE). It should be noted that school nurses work 42 weeks per year, hence the full-time FTE at .81. Through conversations with the LSD and review of the upcoming SWP evaluation report, we anticipate this full-time school nurse need within the LSD will continue into future school years.
The Board of Commissioners can either approve or deny this request.
The Calhoun County Public Health Department requests that the Board of Commissioners approve the staffing changes as noted.
The requested position results in a SWP salary and fringe increase of $21,928.19 for the remaining 21 weeks of the 2019-2020 school year. Of this increase, Lakeview Public Schools agreed to pay $14,722.42. The absence of a budgeted Community Health Supervisor and Community Public Health Director for the first quarter of FY20 results in an approximate savings of $16,000, therefore, fully covering the remaining $7,205.77.
