Information
RESOLUTION:
Resolved, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approves the Binda and Miller Foundation School Wellness Grants
RECOMMENDATION:
The Calhoun County Public Health Department recommends that the Board of Commissioners approve The Miller Foundation ($50,000) and Guido A. and Elizabeth H. Binda Foundation ($150,000 -- $50,000/year for three years) School Wellness Program (SWP) Grants.
BACKGROUND:
The School Wellness Program (SWP) is a comprehensive school nursing program designed to advance students’ academic and life-long achievement by providing community-based, family-centered, prevention-oriented services. These services aim to promote the health and well-being of school-aged children while maximizing their potential for learning through improved access to health-related services offered in the school. The goal of the SWP is to build and maintain a healthy school community by implementing strategies to promote the health and safety of students, families, staff, and the community. These strategies will assure that students remain in the classroom, healthy, and ready to learn.

On behalf of the The Miller and Binda Foundations, the Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD) was awarded $200,000 (Miller Foundation: $50,000; Binda Foundation $150,000 (50,000/year for three years)) for the Harper Creek Community Schools (HCCS) and Lakeview School District (LSD) school nursing.
